Hello

How to Deal with Energy Vampires

Some people leave you feeling lighter. Others leave you drained. The second kind? Those are energy vampires—and it’s important to know how to handle them.

What They Do

Energy vampires pull from your emotional, mental, or even physical energy. They’re not always toxic people, but they can be exhausting to deal with. Constant complaining, guilt-tripping, drama, or one-sided conversations are common signs.

What It Feels Like

  • You feel tired after being around them
  • You feel like you’re doing all the emotional work
  • They dominate conversations or constantly vent
  • There’s always a problem, but never a solution
  • They rarely take responsibility for their actions

How to Protect Yourself

1. Set Boundaries
You don’t need to explain or apologize. Just be clear and consistent.

2. Reduce Contact
Limit how often—and how long—you interact. It’s okay to step back.

3. Stay Detached
Listen if you choose, but don’t carry their emotional weight.

4. Protect Your Space
Rest, recharge, disconnect when needed. Your peace comes first.

5. Choose Better Company
Spend more time with people who respect your time and energy. It makes a difference.

You don’t need to rescue or constantly hold space for everyone. Notice who drains you and give yourself permission to take a step back. You’re allowed to protect your energy.
